Cherish the Ladies: A Celtic Christmas
Wednesday, December 7, 2005 at 7:30 p.m.
Sean O'Sullivan Theatre, Brock University
Over the past sixteen years, the name of a time
honoured Irish traditional jig has become equally
well known as the name of Cherish the Ladies, one
of the most engaging ensembles in Irish music.
Though originally the group won recognition as
the first and only all-women traditional Irish
band, they have since established themselves as
musicians and performers without peer and have
won many thousands of listeners and fans to their music.
Performing a mix of jigs, reels, wistful ballads
and even a few bawdy tunes, the quintet is
renowned for exquisite harmonies and a passion
for the Irish tradition. With their unique
spectacular blend of virtuosi instrumental
talents, beautiful vocals, captivating
arrangements and stunning step dancing, this
powerhouse group combines all the facets of Irish
traditional culture and puts it out in an
immensely humorous and entertaining performance.
The past years have seen Cherish the Ladies
traveling all over North and South America, the
United Kingdom and Europe performing in the
finest concert halls and international festivals.
They have shared the stage with such noted
entertainers as James Taylor, Joan Baez, Emmy Lou
Harris, The Clancy Brothers, The Chieftains and
dozens of symphony orchestras. The Celtic Album,
their collaboration with the Boston Pops
Orchestra, lead to a 1999 Grammy nomination. They
have recorded seven highly acclaimed albums and
were named Best Musical Group by the BBC in 2002.
Cherish the Ladies will offer up a compelling mix
of holiday jigs and festive reels guaranteed to
